Hey Shingle People! Happy Friday!
First of all, thank you so much for your support of my podcast. With just three episodes, I have over 100 downloads! This thing I started as an outlet and a way to help others is taking off, so I’m proud. In the post about my 2017 goals, I mentioned that I would like to get to 3000 downloads by the end of the year. There’s still plenty of work to be done, so let’s go!
In this latest episode, I get real! Did you know that the fastest growing group of entrepreneurs in the US are Black and Latina women? However, as women of color, we face a tremendous amount of obstacles when starting a business. Not knowing how to properly deal with and overcome these obstacles can mean an unsuccessful business. And even if you manage to overcome them, it can be very discouraging and take your business a longer time to grow.
As a black female attorney working in a male dominated field and in a white-male dominated practice are (tax law), I dealt with obstacles of proving my worth, fighting for a seat at the table, building trust with my supervisor, and being confident in my work. Having to deal with these obstacles early on somewhat prepared me for dealing with the obstacles of starting a business.
As I mention in this episode, many of these won’t go away 100%, but learning what they are, knowing how they can affect you and finding ways to overcome them will help you stay in the game.
I WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU!
What obstacles have you faced as a women of color starting your business?
How have you overcome those obstacles?
