Kendra James is the creator and CEO of The Finance Femme, a premier finance consulting firm that provides business finance advice and virtual CFO services to women businesses. She integrates her corporate experience and extensive entrepreneurial knowledge to help women run their businesses with the confidence of having a full-time CFO.
Kendra graduated from Clemson University, where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Corporate Finance and a minor in Accounting. Upon graduating she moved to NYC where she began her career in finance.
She spent 10+ years climbing the corporate ladder, working for companies like GE managing over 2 billion in sales and 200 million in expenses. She spent thousands of hours inside of inside or preparing for, Executive Boardroom meetings.
A random conversation with the business owner of a boutique garnered Kendra her first client. The boutique owner was on the verge of losing her business because of her finances. Kendra was able to help her get things under control and it was from that encounter that Kendra realized her passion was in helping small business owners and that is when she created The Finance Femme and her signature service The Boardroom Experience.
So what exactly does Kendra do for her clients? When you hear the word finance you may think personal finance or when you hear CFO services you may think bookkeeping and accounting. But what Kendra does, and where her specialty lies is in the analytics of the numbers and how understanding those numbers and using them to foreshadow growth or down times is what helps her clients excel.
Kendra and I discuss her own entrepreneurship journey, how she went from not defining her target audience to niching down to women with retail and e-commerce businesses, and why making money in your business doesn’t necessarily mean you’re doing well.
Kendra has built The Finance Femme, with 18,000+ Instagram followers, and is a virtual CFO for female small business owners. Kendra combines the math of accounting and the theory of finance to give her clients their complete financial picture.
Kendra shares her tips every entrepreneur should know for financial success:
- Know your key metrics- knowing your key metrics help you understand what areas of your business are successful and in which areas you need to improve.
