Dr. Joy Harden Bradford is a licensed psychologist and the host of the wildly popular podcast Therapy for Black Girls. She was so inspired after watching Black Girls Rock, that she wanted to create something similar in the mental health space.
Therapy For Black Girls has started a movement! Dr. Joy is helping to remove the stigma of mental health issues and depression, especially as it pertains to Black women. She is also building a community with her directory – which lists therapists who work with black women and her Facebook group where many women share their stories with dealing with depression, anxiety, and toxic relationships, just to name a few.
Dr. Joy and I talk about her own journey of becoming a psychologist and building a practice specifically for black women. We also discuss some of the common challenges entrepreneurs face and how that adds stress to their lives. Dr. Joy gives a lot of tips on setting boundaries, coping mechanisms for anxiety, dealing with FOMO and competition, and dealing with shiny object syndrome.
Dr. Joy Harden Bradford graduated from Xavier University of Louisiana with a B.S. in Psychology, a Master’s degree in Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling from Arkansas State University, and her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from The University of Georgia. Her work has been featured in Essence, Ebony, The Washington Post, Bustle, Women’s Health, and O, The Oprah Magazine.
